Another Dallas Police Officer Tests Positive for COVID-19, Online Reporting Encouraged

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is encouraging online reporting for certain crimes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The department confirmed this week its fourth Officer to test positive for coronavirus. To limit contact between Officers and the general public, Major Israel Herrera said victims of some non-violent crimes are being directed to report them online.

“These include Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Credit Car Abuse, Criminal Mischief, Graffiti, Harassing Phone Calls, Identity Theft, Lost Property, Reckless Damage, Theft, and Theft Shoplifting,” said Major Herrera.

According to DPD, the Detroit Police Department has lost a third of its workforce due to COVID-19 and the New York Police Department has over 5,000 officers in quarantine and three have died. Herrera said the Dallas Police Department does not want to be the next statistic to the pandemic when it comes to a depleted workforce.
