City of Richardson Temporarily Suspends Recycling and Limits Trash Service Due to COVID-19

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF)- Beginning April 9, 2020 recycling services in the city of Richardson will be suspended and trash collection will be temporarily reduced from twice to once-per-week due to COVID-19.

Greg Sowell with the City of Richardson says COVID-19 has resulted in staffing shortages in the City’s Public Services Department and has increased the demand of trash with more people staying at home. No changes are currently planned for the City’s Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) service.

Sowell said they are working hard to return to normal. “If you have someone in your home that’s sick we are asking you to double bag your trash, especially if there’s things like tissues or other medical waste in thee,” he said.

help BABIC crews meet this new demand, residents are asked to “Think Big” by only requesting service when there is a sufficient amount of material to require a truck to haul the waste. Items weighing 50 or more pounds, such as large furniture or appliances, should be set out for BABIC. Small piles of brush, lawn clippings and anything else weighing less than 50 pounds should be disposed of through regular trash collection.
