Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – President Donald Trump on Sunday everning, retweeted a call to fire his top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci; that, amid mounting criticism of the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The tweet, originally from congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine, a Republican running for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s seat was in response to Fauci’s comments on CNN “State of the Union’ Sunday morning in which he said the U.S. could have acted more swiftly in preventing the outbreak by implementing stricter social distancing orders.

“Obviously, it would have been nice if we had a better head start, but I don’t think you could say that we are where we are right now because of one factor. It’s very complicated.”

Fauci also confirmed a New York Times story saying that he and other experts had wanted to begin social and physical distancing measures as early as February.

The retweet has since been deleted.
