Beaumont Mayor Apologizes for Nail Salon Visit Amid Stay-At-Home Order

BEAUMONT (WBAP/KLIF News) – The mayor of Beaumont apologized for violating a stay-at-home order after a photo of her surfaced on social media visiting a nail salon.

After the photo spread, Mayor Becky Ames said she was there for a short period of time in order to learn how to remove her manicured nails and to pick up some acetone for the process.

Mayor Becky Ames issued a statement on the city’s Facebook page that read in part:

“I should have never entered the salon last Tuesday. I did not intend to take personal privilege while asking others to sacrifice and for that I am truly remorseful. My heartfelt apologies to all of the citizens of Beaumont and for my lapse in judgement.”

Violations of the stay-at-home order are punishable by a fine of up to $2,000.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation are investigating the situation.

Mayor Ames issued a stay-at-home order and closed nonessential businesses March 27th, days before Governor Greg Abbott issued a similar statewide order.
