WATCH: Domestic Abuse Cases Rise Amid Coronavirus Pandemic, Police Step in

Lt. Pollyanna Ashford

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police report an increase in the number of domestic violence cases since the coronavirus pandemic began in the United States.

The announcement comes days after Police said a Dallas mother shot and killed her 8-year-old daughter before turning the gun on herself.

According to DPD, there were 918 domestic violence cases reported in February. In March, the number increased to 1,169 and in April, there were 1,202 cases.

Police want the public to know that help is available. Officers are distributing information across the city that provides contact information and access to resources available to victims.

“We are putting flyers out at food banks and churches,” said Lt. Pollyanna Ashford. “Anywhere victims may be going so they can get the help they need.”
