DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) –  Hundreds flocked to North Texas Monday for an annual Memorial Day event that was forced to change tactics amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The “Carry The Load” event typically starts in March on the east and west coasts with Americans walking or running to honor their fallen heroes all the way to Texas.

“We walk the American flag from town to town and it actually meets all the way down in Texas kind of where it ends at,” said organizer John Reed.

This year, the run or walk will be replaced by the “Carry The Load Memorial Day Drive.”

“You get in your car, you can dress it up, you can wear whatever you want. It’s really just to celebrate the veterans and first responders who have fallen and who are currently serving for us,” said Reed.

The drive runs from 9 am – 12 pm and starts at the corner of Maple Avenue and Turtle Creek.

There will also be a Facebook watch party at 1 p.m. for the premiere of “A Conversation with our co-founders, Stephen Holley and Clint Bruce.”

At 3 p.m., the group is asking people to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance for one minute.
