Mayor’s Milk Initiative Wraps up this Weekend

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas residents will have their lost opporunity for free milk this weekend as part of Mayor Eric Johnson’s Mayor’s Milk Initiative, a partnership with Borden Dairy, Dallas ISD, and local faith leaders.

Earlier this month Dallas-based Borden began delivering the milk to schools and houses of worship. At those 16 sites, faith-based volunteers and participating nonprofits distribute the milk to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Mayor’s Milk Initiative will help many Dallas families who are facing hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Johnson said. “During difficult times, the people of our city, our business community, and our institutions have always rallied to help our neighbors in need, and this initiative is the latest example of what we can accomplish by working together.”

The Mayor’s Milk Initiative is made possible by the Department of Agriculture’s new Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which is part of Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program.

Borden received the USDA’s largest award under the Farmers to Families Food Box Program and plans to distribute a total of 700 million servings of milk in the Southeast, Southwest and Midwest regions, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

“Dallas is our home, and we are proud to expand our local donation initiatives with the support of the Mayor, the Dallas ISD and other non-profit partners,” said Borden CEO Tony Sarsam. “Borden applauds the City for its rapid response to ensure DFW residents have convenient access to nutrition during this time.”
