DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police and State Troopers will have the help of the National Guard as protests continue across the state over the death of a black man while in Minneapolis Police custody.

George Floyd died after video showed a Minneapolis Police Officer press his knee to Floyd’s chest while Floyd pleaded for help.

Governor Greg Abbott has activated the National Guard in response to protest violence throughout the state.

“Texans have every right to exercise their first amendment rights, but violence and looting will not be tolerated,” Governor Abbott said.

Protests erupted in Dallas Saturday for the second day in a a row. Marches turned destructive as the morning hours approached. Windows were smashed at local businesses in downtown and parts of Uptown, including Victory Park.

Police deployed tear gas to disperse crowds. Confrontation between Police and protesters grew into Sunday morning.
