East Texas Evacuations As Tropical Storm Cristobal Nears

DALLAS – WBAP/KLIF –  Evacuations of some homes and businesses in East Texas have begun with an enormous amount of rainfall and flooding possible as weatHer-heavy Tropical Storm Cristobal moves north across the Gulf of Mexico, with expected landfall near New Orleans late Sunday.

The storm is then expected to move a little northwest toward Arkansas, ladling very heavy rain along the East Texas/Louisiana state line.  Cristobal will continue to dump heavy rain and possibly cause flash and other flooding issues northeast from Arkansas up through the Mississippi Valley, dumping heavy rain well north of the Great Lakes in Canada as the storm keeps moving.

Cristobal’s sustained winds were 50 miles an hour when the evacuations were called for in East Texas.  Evacuations in East Texas were called early, in an effort to avoid last minute arrivals to cramped evacuation facilities, noting the ease of transmission of the Covid 19 virus in those conditions. It’s believed many East Texas evacuees will be provided hotel rooms to avoid transmitting the pandemic virus.
