Central Texas Man Charged with the Murder of Fort Hood Soldier

Brandon Olivares

HARKER HEIGHTS (WBAP/KLIF News) – There’s been a charge in the murder of a Fort Hood soldier whose body was found beside a road four miles from where his burned SUV was found in Harker Heights, about 11 miles from the base.

28-year-old Brandon Michael Olivares of Killeen has been charged with murder of Pfc. Brandon Rosecrans and is in the Bell County Jail in Belton on a $1 million bond.

According to an affidavit, Olivares told investigators he and Roscrans were riding in Roscran’s SUV when he shot the soldier and left his body along a secluded road near Stillhouse Hollow Lake in May.

According to the ArmyTimes.com, Oliveres was already in custody in Bell County Jail for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Investigators have not revealed a motive for the murder.

Roscrans death is one of four Fort Hood soldiers in recent weeks, including Pfc. Vanessa Guillen, whose family said she was sexually harassed by the soldier accused of killing her.

Trump Administration Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy stopped at Fort Hood Thursday and said the base has one of the highest rates of murder, sexual assault and harassment in the Army.

“We have to continue to learn and have to continue with the investment of our time and said down with our teammates to have some very hard conversations,” he said.

McCarthy called for changes to be made immediately.
