Amber Guyger (TDCJ)

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Fifth Court of Appeals is being asked to consider a lesser charge in the case of former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger.

Guyger is serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted last year of Murder in the 2018 shooting death of Botham Jean. Guyger claims she shot Jean after mistaking his apartment for her own.

Guyger’s attorney’s are appealing her conviction asking for a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. The claim is that the evidence didn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Guyger committed murder.

The defense team is asking for a hearing to prove their case.
