Twice As Many Hurricanes Expected in 2020

(WBAP/KLIF) — As U.S. costal areas have experienced an already busy hurricane season, forecasters warn it may turn nastier.

Hurricane Michael strengthened into a Category 4 storm as it moved toward the Florida Panhandle, where it could blow ashore as the strongest storm to hit the United States this year.

The national oceanic and atmospheric administration, Thursday, increased its forecast for the number of storms and hurricanes this year to be far above normal.

Colorado State University is calling for 24 named storms and hurricanes this year, twice the number as originally forecast. That means the season will likely run out of traditional names, at which time forecasters turn to using Greek letters to name storms.

The 2020 season has already seen nine named storms. experts worry because 90% of hurricane activity occurs after august 6th.
