Dallas County Warns of Potential Second Wave in Fight Against COVID-19

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins warned North Texans on Friday of what he called a “new” and “escalating wave” of COVID-19 cases.

Jenkins fears that people are letting their guard down as some bars reopen and restaurants expand capacity.

“Some elected leaders have begun doing things against what the doctors recommend,” Jenkins said. People, in turn, are taking that as a sign that they can be more loose in their restrictions.

According to the County Judge, Dallas County has seen a 44% increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last three weeks.

Dallas County reported 480 additional confirmed cases and 20 new COVID-19 related deaths on Friday, which is reminiscent of summer statistics.

The hospitalization rate in DFW remains adequate, according to medical experts, but that could quickly change with a potential second wave.
