DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas National Guard could be headed to North Texas in the days ahead.
According to the Texas Military Department, as many as 1,000 troops could be deployed across five major Texas cities ahead of election day. But don’t expect to see troops at the polls. The mission isn’t specific to the election. Instead, it is meant to support any civil disturbances that could happen.
The Texas National Guard continues to support DPS guarding historical landmarks such as the Alamo and the State Capitol. To be clear, there has been no request nor plan to provide any type of support at any polling location in Texas.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Tuesday that there is no credible threat surrounding the election.
“There is no more credible threat in this election cycle than there has been in previous election cycles,” Jenkins said.
The National Guard was deployed to Texas cities over the summer when protests broke out following the death of George Floyd.
