Republican Angie Chen Button Takes Narrow Race for Texas House

DALLAS (WVAP/KLIF) – An extremely narrow race for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives is over, more than a week after election day.

Democrat Brandy Chambers conceded to Republican incumbent Angie Chen Button in the race for State Representative District 112. The vote differential was just over 200 votes.

“In 2018, with very little resources I was able to earn 49% of the vote, said Chambers. “Out of 53,000 votes cast, I just missed the mark by 1,110 votes. I persisted and ran again this year. This time more resources were made available and I was able to wage a proper campaign. Now, out of 69,015 votes cast, we are short 222. Based on legal advice from the state party, I am not asking for a recount.

The Dallas county GOP said Wednesday that the win indicates Dallas county is on the path to returning to a red county.

“At the end of the day the Republican vote was counted and the Democrat vote was counted and Angie Chen Button will be returning to the legislature to represent Dallas County in the excellent that she has for the past two sessions,” said the party’s Will Busby. “And we’re excited about that.”

Governor Abbott campaigned with Button weeks ahead of the election.
