ALLEN (WBAP/KLIF)-The Collin County Commissioners allocated an additional $2million in CARES Act funds to support local food pantries.
CEO of Allen Community Outreach, Marjorie Burr said she’s thrilled the county decided to add more funding to the program.
Burr said they have tripled the numbers of families and the amount of food they were distributing at the beginning of the year, especially with the holidays approaching.
“We have had a line out the door this morning, a huge line this past weekend,” said Burr. “We had certainly gone past what they allocated in the beginning. There’s such a huge need, it’s crazy, with folks scrambling to feed their families,” she said.
Burr said they wouldn’t have been able to keep up this holiday season without the extra support from the county.
“Last week I bought 500 turkeys that I would have never been able to do without this funding,” she said.
The county will continue to make reimbursement payments that have been submitted by local pantries.
