IRVING (WBAP/KLIF)- On Christmas Eve twenty years ago, Irving Police Officer Aubrey Hawkins, badge 830, was brutally murdered when he responded to a suspicious circumstance call at the Oshman’s Sporting Goods in Irving. Seven escaped convicts were in the midst of committing an aggravated robbery and ambushed Officer Hawkins, killing him before he could get out of his police car. “Today, we remember our brother and honor his sacrifice. The Hawkins family will forever be in our hearts. We will never forget,” said the department.
The Irving Police Department posted a tribute video on social media, for Aubrey. Two suspects are still on death row now twenty-years later.
“The media played a large role in capturing the escaped inmates, and we are forever grateful. Please help us to continue to honor the sacrifice Officer Aubrey Hawkins made that Christmas Eve after having dinner with his family by sharing this video where you can. Thank you for helping us keep the memory of Officer Aubrey Hawkins alive. Gone but not forgotten.”
