(WBAP/KLIF) — Conronavirus cases in the Lone Star State are nearing pandemic records set in July. Texas state health officials reported almost 11,000 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in hospitals across the state.
The Christmas day total of Coronavirus patients was just within 30 of the record high set earlier this summer. The department reports intensive care units are full in several parts of the state.
The situation in the Dallas area is relatively better, as ICU capacity is at 78%, down from 81% the previous day. Texas reported 200 pandemic deaths Christmas day. With the coronavirus pandemic killing less than 1% of North Texans who contract the virus, local government leaders are urging residents to lock down and avoid family gatherings during the holidays.
