(WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn will not object to President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the Electoral College when Congress convenes for a joint session on Wednesday.

Cornyn’s split with colleague Ted Cruz, of Texas, comes in a letter the senior senator from Texas wrote to citizens of the Lone Star State as published by the Texas Tribune.

In a letter to Texans, Cornyn writes, “I support the right of my colleagues to challenge one or more states’ electoral votes.”

“Allegations alone will not suffice. Evidence is required,” Cornyn wrote.

Cornyn writes that he made this decision the same way he made decisions as a judge.

“Unless substantial, new evidence is presented during the challenges to each state’s ballots, I will not object to the certification of that state’s election results based on unproven allegations,” Cornyn wrote.
