ALLEN (WBAP/KLIF)- The Allen Independent School District has partnered with the City of Allen and the Allen Fire Department (AFD) to assist with the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Allen ISD has designated the parking lot at Eagle Stadium as an official distribution location for the Allen Fire Department to administer vaccinations.
The vaccine is currently available to individuals who meet the criteria under Phase 1A or 1B definitions of the vaccination rollout as determined by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
The Eagle Stadium parking lot was deemed an ideal location based on the available space to accommodate a large-scale, appointment-only vaccination drive-thru process.
“Allen ISD is proud to partner with our city and county leaders to help support the health and well-being of our community members,” said Robin Bullock, Allen ISD Superintendent. “Eagle Stadium is centrally located and easily accessible to the Allen community, and we recognize the importance of providing this site to support the vaccination efforts.”
AFD will receive a shipment of 2,000 vaccines from DSHS this week to begin appointment-only vaccinations to serve those already signed up on the City of Allen’s vaccination notification list. No drop-in appointments will be available.
“Since COVID-19 first appeared, the leaders in the City of Allen and Allen ISD have worked together to help reduce the impact of the pandemic throughout the community and school district as much as possible,” said Jonathan Boyd, Allen Fire Chief. “This partnership is a continuation of our efforts to keep our citizens safe. We are thankful to have a strong partnership with AISD that allows us to work with Collin County to increase vaccine availability and get vaccinations administered as quickly as possible.”
Based on state guidelines, educators are not included in phase 1A or 1B, however, they may be eligible for the vaccine based on other criteria. Allen ISD will continue to work with state health officials regarding the inclusion of educators in future phases of the vaccine rollout.
