Local Food Pantry Answers the Call of North Texans Struggling in Aftermath of Winter Storm

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A Collin County food pantry hosted a massive food and water distribution event on Monday in the aftermath of last week’s winter storm.

North Texans continue to deal with the impacts of the storm and many families are left with busted pipes and little access to water. Some grocery stores remain short on supply. A line of cars wrapped the Plano neighborhoods surrounding Minnie’s Food Pantry on Monday ahead of its mid-morning distribution.

“We have received calls from people in need of just a meal because grocery store shelves are empty, but we know the need far exceeds food and we must respond to their cry,” said Dr. Cheryl Jackson, Founder, Minnie’s Food Pantry. “We have scheduled two deliveries of food to local schools, four deliveries of food to senior citizens’ facilities, and are hosting distribution dates to feed the hungry.  We will remain on the front lines long after the news stops discussing this tragedy”.

Families received a Minnie’s Family Food Box, fresh meats and produce donated by Hello Fresh, cases of water and Hanes socks. Another event is set for Wednesday.
