The Dallas Police Department Honors a Fallen Hero

(Prestonwood Baptist)

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A fallen Dallas Police Officer is being remembered as a hero.

The Dallas Police Department paid tribute on Monday to Officer Mitchell Penton with full honors during a funeral service at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. The 27-year-old Officer was killed earlier this month after being hit by a suspected drunk driver while working a crash on  Central Expressway near Walnut Hill. Chief Eddie Garcia reflected on the thoughts of the rank and file.

“His training Officers never really looked at him as a recruit,” the Chief said. “They saw him as a partner.”

Chief Garcia addressed the Officers in attendance.

“My brothers and sisters, stand fast,” he said. “Continue to do your duty. Our communities need us today more than ever. Continue to answer the call. Officer Mitchell Penton, we will not let you down, rest easy hero. We’ll take it from here.”

Officer Penton is being remembered as a man who loved his profession and the city he served.
