LOS ANGELES (WBAP/KLIF) – Golfing great Tiger Woods has been hospitalized after a major car crash in California.

Images coming in show an SUV on its side badly damaged.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office originally said Woods had to be removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life and was pinned inside the vehicle for an unknown period of time. Officials now say the jaws of life were not used.

There is evidence from the scene of damage over a lengthy section of the roadway with the vehicle several feet off the roadway.

Los Angeles Fire officials describe Woods’ injuries as as moderate to critical. Golf Digest reported Tuesday that Woods suffered several injuries to his legs and was in surgery.

No word on Woods’ prognosis.
