MedStar Paramedic Involved in I-35 Pileup Receives New Truck from Toyota

GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF)- A MedStar paramedic involved in the deadly I-35W pileup in Fort Worth received a new truck from Toyota as a thank you for his heroic actions.

Trey McDaniel was on his way to work when he was caught up in the wreck.  His car was totaled and he managed to crawl out and immediately treated other victims. He recalls getting hit was the most powerful force he’s ever felt.

With glass in his hands and blood running down his nose, McDaniel was helping to save lives.

“I did what I normally do on scenes…you see a scene like this and you immediately want to go make sure everyone is okay. That was my biggest thing. I just reverted to that because I didn’t know what else to do,” said McDaniel.

McDaniel’s selfless act gained viral attention. Toyota awarded him with a brand new 2021 Toyota 4 Runner TRD Pro.

“It’s so hard to explain to people how I’m feeling because a week ago I got a call from Toyota that they heard my story and now I’m sitting in a new vehicle and I’m just like…what is happening right now this is crazy,” said McDaniel.

As a former Toyota salesman, he never thought he would be rewarded with a free vehicle to replace his old truck (2011 Toyota FJ), that saved his life.
“It’s surreal. I have always preached Toyota’s safety and I never thought I would experience Toyota’s safety features first hand,” he said.
McDaniel says its come full circle and he’s grateful for all the support.
