Local Nonprofits Provide Resources for Federally Run Shelter Holding Migrant Teens in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Local non-profit groups are providing support to the temporary shelter for migrant teenagers at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

Faith Forward Dallas is one of several organizations pitching in while as many as 3,000 migrants will be housed at the convention center in comings weeks and months. Andrew Paley is the group’s chairman and said Thursday that volunteers will be engaging with the migrant teens when possible.

“The idea is to be in a position to be with the kids and find out what kind of ways we can support them in their transition process,” Paley said. “To talk with them, to calm them and alleviate their fears and concerns to the best that is possible.”

Catholic Charities Dallas is organizing the volunteer effort and the American Red Cross is providing cots and blankets for the Federally run shelter.  According to the Red Cross, there is not currently a need for additional volunteers to assist at the shelter, but the organization always welcomes people to sign-up to join the Red Cross.
