Atmos Energy Fined 1.6M Over 2018 Fatal House Explosion That Killed a 12-Year Old Girl

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Atmos Energy Corp. faces a record 1.6-million dollars in fines in connection with a house explosion in 2018 that killed a young girl.

The Railroad Commission of Texas, which oversees pipeline safety, found that the

Dallas-based company failed to adequately detect gas leaks in the days and even months prior to the fatal explosion that left Micheleta Rogers dead.

The pre-teen died in the third of 3 explosions over three days in the same Northwest Dallas neighborhood.

The commission says that Atmos should have shut down the gas line and evacuated the neighborhood to investigate.

The proposed fines come after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) met Thursday to finalize its findings.

Atmos has until mid-april to either pay or appeal the proposed fines.
