Former Keller Cop Indicted by Grand Jury

(WBAP/KLIF) — A former Keller police officer accused of using excessive force was indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury, Friday.  The grand jury handed down an indictment on a charge of official oppression against Blake Shimanek, a former sergeant with the Keller Police Department.

The charge stems from a much-publicized incident where Shimanek allegedly pepper-sprayed Marco Puente who was filming officers arrest his son, Dillon, for a minor traffic violation.  Puente sued the city in Federal court, winning a settlement of $200,000.  Shimanek resigned in February, and now faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

Keller Police Chief Brad Fortune apologized for the incident occurring under his watch and vowed to make changes within the department.
