DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Texans will lose their federal pandemic unemployment benefits this Saturday, June 26th.
This includes the $300 weekly payments from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program.
Many employers have found it difficult to hire during this time because they couldn’t match those benefits.
The Texas Workforce Commission Spokesperson Cisco Gamez said the change will affect roughly 500,000 Texans but noted there’s plenty of jobs available.
Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne hosted a roundtable discussion in North Texas and talked about the struggles many employers are facing having to match or beat the benefits, recruit and retain employees.
Van Duyne shed light on an upcoming job fair at the Irving Convention Center on July 15th.
“If you’re looking at your unemployment benefits coming to an end, and you’re in need of a job, come out we have a ton of employers coming looking to hire. Business is open in Texas and we need to get people back to work,” said Van Duyne.
There are multiple upcoming job fair events planned in the near future and roughly 850,000 jobs posted on MyTXCareer.com and WorkInTexas.com, websites where employers can share available jobs.
