DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Five years ago, on July 7th, 2016, a gunman opened fire during a protest in Downtown Dallas that resulted in the death of five Dallas officers.The attack was felt across the United States including inside the White House.
“The entire City of Dallas is grieving. Police across America, which is a tight-knit family, feels this loss to their core, and we’re grieving with them,” President Barack Obama said in the hours following the July 7th attack.
Four Dallas Police Officers were killed and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer was killed.

Former Police Chief David Brown, who is now Superintendent of Chicago Police, issued a statement ahead of the anniversary.
“I pray that the good Lord provides peace and comfort to the families of the brave, courageous fallen,” Brown said in a statement this week.
Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Sergeant Michael Smith, Officer Patrick Zamarripa and DART Officer Brent Thompson were killed.

Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata recalls that fateful day as “surreal.”
