DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas 14-year-old is charged with murder after an armed carjacking led to a high-speed police chase that ended with a crash.

The deadly incident prompted Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia to raise an alarm about a rising number of teens committing crimes.

“We’re seeing more and more juvenile suspects particularly with carjackings. I’ll tell you, when you have 14-year-olds with a weapon in their hands threatening an individual’s life those are even more dangerous situations,” he said.

Investigators said the juvenile was driving a Toyota Camry that was taken at gunpoint Monday night in East Dallas. Officers had spotted the car early Wednesday morning and a 20-minute high speed chase ensued.

The driver then ran a red light at Wadsworth Drive and Great Trinity Forest Way and crashed into a white Chevy Impala, claiming the life of the driver, identified as Cordell Jackson.

A passenger in Jackson’s car suffered serious injuries but has been released from the hospital.

The four people in the stolen Camry, three juveniles and one adult, were treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injures.

The 14-year-old is also facing gun possession, evading arrest and armed robbery charges in addition to the murder charge. Dallas Police have not said whether the passengers in the stolen car will face charges.

Chief Garcia said this disturbing trend of teens committing serious crimes needs to be stopped and fast.

“We got to get them involved more in schools, finding them something to do and get the message out…because we’re starting to see that happen more and more,” he said.
