U.S. To Return Haitians To Haiti

UPDATE: 09-18 5:35 PM – Federal officials indicate they will begin flying Haitians from the border near Del Rio home to Haiti beginning Sunday.  Unconfirmed reports indicate many of the Haitians, numbering thousands, may be flown home from San Antonio.

Del Rio (AP) – A US official says the Biden administration plans to expel Haitian migrants from a small Texas border city by flying them back to Haiti starting Sunday. The move represents a swift and dramatic response to thousands of would-be migrants who suddenly assembled under and around a bridge in Del Rio. The official tells The Associated Press that details are not finalized but will likely involve five to eight flights a day. San Antonio may be among the departure cities. U.S. authorities closed traffic to vehicles and pedestrians in both directions at Del Rio’s only border crossing with Mexico.
