HOUSTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Houston police officer is dead and another one is battling injuries sustained in a shooting Monday morning.
According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, William “Bill” Jeffrey and Sgt. Michael Vance were shot while serving a search warrant at a apartment complex in northeast Harris County.
Investigators said the suspect 31-year-old Deon Ledet, who was also killed in the incident, allegedly came out of his unit and started shooting as the officers were speaking with a woman at the front door.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Jeffrey was killed in the shooting and Sgt. Vance is in surgery and is expected to recover.
I am currently with @houstonpolice Chief @TroyFinner, @SheriffEd_HCSO, other law enforcement agencies, and @HoustonFire. We will brief the media shortly.
I ask for our city to uplift the two officers family members and the rest of our HPD family at this time. #HoustonStrong pic.twitter.com/F7tVOcl6Vn
