Dallas Crime Stats Show Decreasing Trends

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is reporting progress in its plan to reduce violent crime.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia told the city’s Public Safety Committee on Monday that the department is seeing crime trends improve since the implementation of his crime reduction plan.

“We’re down almost 10% as a city in murder,” said Chief Garcia. “We’re down over 28% as a city in robbery.”

While the Chief said much more needs to be done, the council recognized significant strides.

“That is not happening in other big cities across this country, and so that is a major accomplishment thus far,” Councilman Adam McGough said.

Department leadership said Monday that they plan to address a growing number of violent crimes at local apartment complexes. The department’s holiday crime reduction plan will also be rolled out in coming weeks.
