FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Local artists are adding their own flare to a long standing holiday tradition.
At the Sundance Square plaza in Downtown Fort Worth you will see a 55-foot Norway Spruce tree that was harvested in a snowy town in Michigan and sent all the way to Cowtown.
The Sundance Square Christmas tree has been a spectacle for many years but this year the decorations may look a little different.
Sundance Square called on local artists to design their own ornaments, and they’re not just regular ornaments…these are beach ball sized to fit the massive tree.
“The consensus was that we wanted each ornament to reflect our different styles so that if we looked at it we knew who it belonged to,” said artist Monica Wright. “For Sundance Square to lean on local artists was so flattering and made me feel valued I’m just so grateful to be included in such a monumental tree for our city,” she said.
Artists said this was a fun experience to get them into the holiday season.
“We were all together in one room to chat and laugh and since Covid we haven’t had a chance to do things like that,” said another artist ,” Mouty Shackleford.
Ornaments will be going on the tree this week and it will be all lit up and ready for the Fort Worth Parade of Lights on Sunday November 21st.
