ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Thanksgiving is on the horizon and Mission Arlington said its low on Thanksgiving food staples to help feed thousands of needy North Texas families.
The non-profit has already packed about 3,000 food boxes but needs carrots, sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and stuffing.
Mission Arlington Executive Director Tillie Burgen said they’ll take donations small and large stressing that both make a major impact on the lives of those who may be struggling.
“I wish people could no that there is nothing insignificant they could give. Everything that is given here, the gratitude of the people in our front rooms…their tears and everything…there’s a lot of gratitude that we get to experience,” she said.
Burgen said the demand for their services has risen and volunteering has fallen amid the COVID-19 pandemic but the kindness of the community remains strong.
“The need has risen of course as people have been struggling but trying to come back to independence and take care of their families. The donors have continued to be faithful. Together we want to honor God and take care of the people,” she said.
Volunteers will deliver food boxes to those who requested it and host a sit down dinner on site on Thanksgiving Day.
Mission Arlington feeds about 6,000 people over the holidays. In addition to the food donations, organizers are also in need of volunteers.
You can drop off food items or volunteer at the Mission at 210 W South Street. It’s open from 5 am to 9 pm seven days a week.
