(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas Transportation Commission reached an agreement with the Federal Highway Administration that would allow the state to resume design work on I-45.

The pact will allow certain parts of a disputed project, aimed at rebuilding 24 miles along Interstate 45 and several other roadways, to resume. The Houston project has been in the works for nearly two decades and was put on hold in March after the feds began a civil rights and environmental justice investigation.
Harris county had filed a federal lawsuit alleging that state officials ignored the project’s impact.
