Promise House Running $500,000 Deficit, In Dire Need of Donations

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas organization that serves the bulk of Texas children in Child Protective Services who are needing emergency placements is in dire need of donations.

Promise House said its $500,000 in the red this year but the demand for its services continues to grow.

Cobie Lambert, Promise House Chief Philanthropy Officer, said the kids often arrive with the clothes on their back, needing the bare minimum to survive.

“Clothes, toiletries, linens…all the things that you use and need daily are what we provide to the young people who are in our care and we rely on the community heavily to make that happen,” she said.

Promise House receives government grants and corporate donations but Lambert said community support, no matter how small, goes a long way to help in the daily operations.

“A small $100 donation covers one night of a child’s stay in our emergency shelter. Young people are often removed from their homes as a result of abuse or neglect and placed here at Promise House,” she said.

Lambert stressed that the community remember that the children Promise House serves have no where else to turn yet are filled with a spark of hope to fulfill their dreams.

Former Promise House client Justice said she’s walking proof of that, having overcome what seemed as insurmountable odds to go to college.

“Looking back, I was so scared…I didn’t think I would be able to afford any of this but now…I received financial aid and scholarships. I can see the path forward and I can not wait,” she said.
