Texas Monoclonal Antibody Treatments on Back-Order

(WBAP/KLIF) — The only monoclonal antibody treatment effective against Omicron is on back-order in Texas. Regional infusion centers in five cities including Fort Worth have exhausted their supply of Sotrovimab and won’t receive more shipments until January.

Sunset ID Care Medical Director Ogechika Alozie says it’s the only effective treatment against the latest COVID strain as Omicron’s mutations make other monoclonal treatments such as Regeneron ineffective. Monoclonal antibodies are used in the early stages of COVID cases to help prevent patients from being hospitalized.

Centers in Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio and The Woodlands won’t be able to offer the treatment again until January. Supplies elsewhere are also running low, according to the Texas Health Department.
