(WBAP/KLIF) — Denton city has closed all libraries and recreation centers due to a spike in COVID-19. The city has seen the largest increase in Coronavirus infections among city employees since the pandemic began.

The city’s human resources director indicates that 73 staffers have been infected with the virus over the last 10 days (December 20-29). That number could increase as other employees exposed to the virus have not received a positive result, as of Wednesday night.
That has forced city leaders to close all recreation centers and libraries through January 5th. However, warming centers will remain open if temperatures reach freezing, and the children’s Holiday Camp will also remain in service. According to the Denton Record Chronicle, all facilities are tentatively scheduled to reopen on January 6th.
