(WBAP/KLIF) — Fort Worth oil tycoon and philanthropist William “Tex” Moncrief is dead at the age of 101. Moncrief, who died Wednesday, was best known for his philanthropy through the William A. and Elizabeth B. Moncrief Foundation, which contributed to educational, health and civic organizations.

Moncrief’s statue is on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated from in 1942. He served on UT’s board of regents in the late 80’s and early 90’s and was a strong supporter that served on the board of regents in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
Forbes estimated moncrief’s net worth at more than $1 billion. According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the Texas football team dedicated the statue to Moncrief in 2010.
