Darius Tarver was shot with a stun gun after refusing orders to drop a meat cleaver and frying pan. Officers shot him once with their firearms when he lunged at them with the meat cleaver, then twice more when he got back up and lunged with the frying pan. The 23-year-old later died.

Tarver is seen on body cam video lunging at police with a meat cleaver and frying pan. The lawsuit claims officers should have used de-escalation techniques instead. The Fort Worth Star Telegram says Tarver was a student at UNT.
