Tsunami Advisory Issued for West Coast U.S.

NBC News-AP-WBAP/KLIF – A tsunami advisory has been issued for the west coast of the United States following an undersea volcanic eruption near the Pacific Island nation of Tonga. The island of Tonga did see a small tsunami wave come ashore and swirl around buildings, and those inside the royal dwelling were evacuated to higher ground, but no injuries are reported.

Marinas and bays from San Fransisco south through San Diego County are being evacuated as officials expect strong and unusual rip currents on and off throughout the day, in addition to the possibility of a tsunami wave 1 to 2 feet in height. Officials warn onlookers not to go watch for the tsunami, citing the unknown behavior of this individual event and how it will impact the North American continent.
