ASSOCIATED PRESS; TEXAS TRIBUNE – (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar’s home and political office has been raided by the FBI; placing a focus just before critical elections. The nine term Congressman’s Democratic Party’s primary, just weeks away on March the first. Cuellar tends to reach across the aisle to Republicans; his district runs from Laredo through San Antonio. He serves on the U S Appropriations Committee, which controls government spending, and is Deputy Whip.
He’s on the political hit list of many Democrats as a moderate on several issues, including abortion. And he faces Laredo attorney Jessica Cisneros, who carries strong Democrat support. It’s believed connections to a business in Azerbaijan could be the probe focus of The FBI, though the investigative branch is saying nothing about the raid or its investigation.
