Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A federal court denied an effort to block a newly redrawn political map that sent some minority voters in Tarrant County to majority white districts.
A lawsuit sought a temporary injunction to stop the new map for District 10 from being used in the March 1st primary. The seat is currently held by State Senator Beverly Powell, a Democrat.
A 3-judge US District Court panel found that the plaintiffs “had not satisfied the requirements necessary to obtain a preliminary injunction.”
Specific reasons for the denial will be included in an upcoming opinion. An appeal is likely before the US Supreme Court.
Over a decade ago, a similar challenge to redrawn District 10 was rejected by a federal court in Washington, DC.
