Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth Police have launched an effort to get fake paper license plates off the street.

Deputy Police Chief Pedro Criado told city council members Tuesday fake tags are a nationwide problem and one that all law enforcement must work collectively to combat.

“As far as Fort Worth goes, we currently have 3 open investigations on three locations that are distributing and selling these tags illegally. It’s something that didn’t just come on our radar, it’s been going on.”

Criado told council that police can’t do it alone. He said public input is needed to find illegal tag operations.
