NTX: Family of Former Marine Detained in Russia Get Surprise Call from President Biden

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – A Granbury family who was denied a meeting with President Joe Biden to discuss their son Trevor Reed who has been detained in Russia since 2019 ended up getting a surprise phone call from the president during his visit to Fort Worth on Tuesday.

The call came as the Reeds held a sign reading “Free Trevor Reed Prisoner in Russia” outside Biden’s first event, according to WFAA-TV.

Biden told Joey and Paula Reed that getting Trevor home is a priority; a statement made Mr. Reed very emotional.

Listen:

Reed was visiting his girlfriend in Russia in 2019 when authorities say he assaulted a Russian police officer. He is serving a 9-year prison sentence in a Russian prison camp and is said to be ill after presumably contracting tuberculosis from another prison. Reed’s family heard from him for the first time in over 9 months last week. He told them that he’s coughing up blood and has been denied medical treatment.
