ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Arlington residents who want to help Ukrainian refugees amid the ongoing war with Russia have a new platform to help out.
The City of Arlington launched a website where the public can donate to the city’s Sister City’s effort to provide a safe haven for refugees in Bad Konigshofen, Germany.
It’s a small northern Bavarian town on the border of West and East Germany.
The relationship between Arlington and Bad Konigshofen spans over 70 years, when residents in the North Texas city donated food, clothing and other supplies to assist hundreds of war refugees who escaped to the small town to flee the violence.
Donations can be made here from now until April 15, 2022 and 100% of the proceeds will go towards Arlington’s Sister City’s efforts.
“As your Mayor, I know how compassionate this city is and its been amazing to see so much unity and support around the people of Ukraine,” said Mayor Jim Ross.
The Sister Cities of Arlington organization has already pledged $1,000 towards the effort.
The United Nations said since Russia invaded Ukraine February 24, more than 3.5 million people have fled to neighboring countries to escape the violence and destruction.
