Mansfield: Natural Gas Fire Triggers Massive Fire and Evacuations After Crash

Mansfield (WBAP/KLIF) – A motorist was critically injured overnight after crashing his vehicle into a natural gas pipeline in Mansfield overnight. Mansfield Fire spokesman Jeff Smith says that the motorist was taken to Parkland Hospital with serious burn injuries.

Crews were called to the scene on near Highway 287 near Lonestar around 1AM. The pipeline operated by SiEnergy which turned off gas flowing though the line to let the fire burn out.

The incident prompted evacuations for residents of the Somerset neighborhood overnight. After the line was turned off and the air quality in the area was deemed save, they were permitted to return to their homes.

The Mansfield Police Department is investigating the crash.

Mansfield, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – In a tweet overnight, the Mansfield Police Department said that a driver crashed into a natural gas pipeline causing a massive fire that triggered evacuations and the closure of Highway 287 from Lonestar to FM 661 in Ellis County.

The driver of the vehicle suffered critical burns and was transported to Parkland Hospital.

The gas line has been shut off and and residents have been permitted to return to their homes.
