Extreme Fire Danger Across Much of Texas

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Red flag fire danger and extreme fire risk warnings are posted now across much of the state of Texas. Today, those fire dangers include the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Stalley says extreme drought is being aggravated even more by temperatures currently far above normal; by some 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Stalley suggests Texans may reconsider their choices of activities outside and take extra care even with things like grilling, because vegetation is so dry now a simple spark will quickly escalate.

Wildfires continue to burn in West Texas, but firefighters have seen more containment in the last several days than they did for the first week of the burns. Red flag fire danger and extreme fire danger risks extend from West Texas through the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, south through Central Texas and the Hill Country, and beyond.
