
DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Travelers were left stranded after over 3,500 flights were canceled over the weekend nation wide. Airline companies cited tech issues and bad weather played a key factor in the cancellations. FlightAware, a website that tracks flights, noted major disruptions at several Florida airports, including Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, as well as Baltimore and other airports around the country. JetBlue, Dallas-based Southwest, Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Spirit and Fort Worth-based American Airlines were most affected.
By the end of Saturday, Southwest canceled 520 flights, most of those were in Florida. American Airlines canceled 363 flights and delayed another 620. On Sunday American nixed another 261 flights and delayed 400.
Passengers were complaining on social media were reportedly being told that flights may not be available for days.
Several airlines said Sunday that operations are returning to normal. The spate of cancellations arrived as air travel is rebounding from the pandemic, with strong demand for spring-break flights.
